THIRD EDITION - May 15, 2001
Published By Highland House II

Since its first publication in 1980, this large book has been one of the primary sources of information on the Medal of Honor, containing the full text of the Official Citation of every Medal of Honor recipient since the inception of the award in 1862.  Diligently prepared by Robert J. Proft, its more than 1,200 pages chronicle the feats of our nation's greatest men of valor.

Mr. Proft is dedicated to providing accurate, current information regarding the Medal of Honor.  With a published work such as this, remaining current can be challenging, especially in view of the fact that as we go to press for our new, updated THIRD EDITION, a Medal of Honor award is pending that could not yet be added to this book.  In fact, in the last decade, the names of more than 40 men have been added to the roll of honor as previously rescinded medals (from the purge of 1917) were restored, and special Congressional actions have upgraded the awards of others for actions dating as far back as the Civil War.

To assist the many readers, researchers, and others who utilize this book in keeping their own volume up-to-date with any additional awards of the Medal of Honor, we have prepared these pages.  New or additional information that should be added to your personal copy of this book will be provided for easy printing from this site.  Simply print out the new information and add it to your book.

In preparing for publication of the THIRD EDITION, Mr. Proft consulted extensively with the staff at the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, as well as other noted Medal of Honor historians, to correct errors in the official record and also to insure that these pages are consistent with the published efforts of other official or authoritative sources.  As he continues to update and correct, any errors will also be noted here so that you can make appropriate changes in your volume.
