378   Medals of Honor are Accredited to Pennsylvania

  • The first Medals of Honor ever presented were awarded to 6 members of the Civil War saboteurs known as "Andrew's Raiders" and immortalized a century later in the movie "The Great Locomotive Chase".  Eventually all 19 military members of that mission were awarded Medals of Honor.  Though all 19 heroes entered the service in Ohio and 15 of them were born in that state, Pennsylvania-born MARTIN JONES HAWKINS was a part of the mission and received his Medal of Honor after being released from a POW camp.

"For Conspicuous Gallantry and Intrepidity in Action At the Risk of Life Above and Beyond the Call of Duty"

Due to the large number of Medals of Honor accredited to Pennsylvania we have divided them into six pages for your convenience and to decrease down-load time.
