The President of the United States takes pride in presenting the Silver Star Medal to Staff Sergeant Arthur W. Wright, (33122425), Infantry, United States Army. For gallantry in action at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 15 February 1945. Sergeant Wright and his squad were ordered to attack a Japanese-held house in Manila. Taking three men, he entered through the rear door under a hail of rifle and grenade fire. No resistance was encountered on the first floor but heavy rifle fire barred their path up the staircase to the third floor. When one of his men was wounded Sergeant Wright mounted the stairs step-by-step, delivered point blank fire, destroying the enemy and permitting the evacuation of his comrade.
