Donald A. Maze
Silver Star
World War II
U.S. Army
The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star Medal to Sergeant Donald A. Maze, 35047281, 230th Field Artillery Battalion, United States Army, for gallantry in action on 24 March 1945, in Germany. During an advance toward an enemy town, the infantry battalion to which Sergeant Maze’s liaison section was attached ,received fire from an enemy tank. Allied aircraft were overhead and it was imperative that they be warned that friendly troops were attacking the town. In the face of the heavy tank fire, Sergeant Maze and a comrade carried their radio to their liaison officer so that he could contact division headquarters to inform the planes of the situation, and to transmit fire commands to the artillery battalion.
