Jack C. Haberstick
Silver Star
World War II
U.S. Army
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, (amended by act of 25 July 1963), has awarded the silver star to Second Lieutenant Jack C. Haberstick, United States Army, for gallantry in action near Woefling, France, on 6 January 1945. When an enemy machine-gun nest opened fire on his platoon which was leading an attack on Bellevue Farm, Lieutenant Haberstick crept to within fifteen yards of the flank of the enemy gun and wiped out the position and crew with hand grenades. This daring action permitted his platoon to continue its advance and reflects great credit on Lieutenant Haberstick and the military service.
