Private First Class James J. Lindsey, Infantry, Company G, 415th Infantry, United States Army, for gallantry in action in Germany on 11 December 1944. On 11 December 1944, Private Lindsey set out to destroy a machine gun nest that threatened to hold up the advance of his company. Enroute, he disposed of two enemy soldiers by shooting one and slugging the other into unconsciousness. Proceeding under heavy enemy fire, Private Lindsey succeeded in destroying the machine gun nest with hand grenades. Later the same day, he again exposed himself to direct fire from a self-propelled gun to call and direct the firing of artillery to silence that weapon. Private Lindsey’s courage and heroic actions exemplify the highest traditions of the American Soldier. Entered military service from North Creek, New York.
