The President of the United States takes pride in presenting the Silver Star Medal to Private First Class Paul J. Yentsch, 13 154 442, Infantry, Company “G”, 15th Infantry Regiment. At 0200 hours, 18 March 1945, near Dietrichingen, Germany, Private First Class Yentsch crawled 100 yards over open, bullet-swept terrain to silence an enemy machine gun and a sniper that threatened to inflict heavy casualties as his company advanced. Despite the enemy’s fire that narrowly missed him, Private First Class Yentsch killed the sniper, and after a fierce ten minute fire fight silenced the machine gun killing the four man crew.
