The President of the United States takes pride in presenting the Silver Star Medal to William C. Younger, 14026767, First Sergeant, Infantry, Company “L”, *** Infantry Regiment, for gallantry in action on 18 February 1945, in the vicinity of Bliesbrucken, Germany. During the infiltrating action of the enemy, Sergeant Younger, at the head of the avenue of approach, immediately brought fire upon them. His action located points of fire for the rest of the men, and he kept them informed of the enemy’s movements. He eliminated an enemy machine gun by firing a launcher grenade and from time to time exposed himself fearlessly to enemy fire in order to fire his rifle more effectively. As a result of his courage and superior leadership, forty-six enemy surrendered. His outstanding gallantry is in accord with the finest traditions of the military service.
