The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Daniel Amos Hunter, First Sergeant, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 67th Company, 5th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action at Chateau-Thierry, France, on June 6, 1918. During the attack First Sergeant Hunter fearlessly exposed himself and encouraged all men near him, although he himself was wounded three times. He subsequently died of wounds.
