    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant Henry Johnson, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on October 2 – 5, 1879, while serving with Company D, 9th U.S. Cavalry, in action at Milk River, Colorado. Sergeant Johnson voluntarily left fortified shelter and under heavy fire at close range made the rounds of the pits to instruct the guards, fought his way to the creek and back to bring water to the wounded.
