The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant Wallace W. Johnson, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 2 July 1863, while serving with Company G, 6th Pennsylvania Reserves, in action at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. With five other volunteers Sergeant Johnson gallantly charged on a number of the enemy’s sharpshooters concealed in a log house, captured them, and brought them into the Union lines.
