The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Corporal Abel G. Cadwallader, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 6 February 1865, while serving with Company H, 1st Maryland Infantry, in action at Hatcher’s Run & Dabney’s Mills, Virginia. Corporal Cadwallader gallantly planted the colors on the enemy’s works in advance of the arrival of his regiment.
