The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Wayne R. Berry, Private, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Exermont, France, September 29, 1918. Although seriously wounded, Private Berry disregarding the danger, advanced alone on a reconnaissance under heavy machine-gun fire, and brought back important information of the enemy.
