The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to James O. Booth, Cook, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Sivry-Sur-Meuse, France, September 26 & 28, 1918. Booth displayed exceptional courage when, under heavy shell fire and in an exposed position, he constantly made coffee for the battalion and carried it to the lines. On another occasion he assisted in the evacuation of the wounded, carrying them over a half mile under severe fire to the battalion first-aid station.
