    The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Horace O. Bright, First Lieutenant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action at Belleau Bois, France, October 27, 1918. Although severely wounded by enemy machine-gun fire, Lieutenant Bright displayed exceptional bravery, courage, and devotion to duty when he reorganized his company and established a line of resistance which withstood continuous attacks at a critical point in the line. Despite his wounds, he remained in command and actively directed operations until relieved by another officer three hours later.
