The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Samuel R. Bryson, First Lieutenant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action in the Champagne Sector, France, September 29, 1918. After being wounded, Lieutenant Bryson remained in command of his platoon, never hesitating in his attempts to gain his objective, in the face of the greatest hazards.
