The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Raymond Buma, Corporal, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Cuisy, France, September 26, 1918. After all his squad members had become casualties, Corporal Buma alone continued to operate his gun; and, after his ammunition was exhausted, he ran from shell hole to shell hole picking up ammunition and carrying it back to his gun, resumed fire on the enemy that was very instrumental in the success of the attack. He was killed in action shortly afterwards.
