Gaston, Private, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action at Chipilly Ridge, France, August 9, 1918, After being severely wounded by shrapnel Private Gaston showed the greatest courage by continuing to advance on a machine-gun emplacement, keeping the gun occupied, and thereby enabling a detachment to flank the position and capture it.
