The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Robert F. Blumhagen, First Lieutenant (Infantry), U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company F, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on 3 November 1944, near Nampateluzo, France. When attacked by 500 German infantrymen over rolling and intended ground, First Lieutenant Blumhagen dashed through a hail of bullets to an artillery tower. He climbed to the topmost turret and used his BAR to shoot down into the faces of the Germans. The decimated enemy then withdrew.
