The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Ernest F. Floege, Second Lieutenant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Office of Strategic Service, in action against enemy forces from June 1943 to March 1944, in enemy-occupied territory. During this period Lieutenant Floege organized a resistance network in occupied Europe to carry out “day-to-day” operations against the enemy, and engaged in preparations of plans in support of forth-coming military operations on the Continent. The actions on the part of Lieutenant Floege on this dangerous mission, and his personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
