The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant John Denny, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 18 September 1879, while serving with Company C, 9th U.S. Cavalry, in action at Las Animas Canyon, New Mexico. Sergeant Denny removed a wounded comrade, under a heavy fire, to a place of safety.
