The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Bugler George Gates, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 4 June 1869, while serving with 8th U.S. Cavalry, in action at Picacho Mountain, Arizona Territory. Bugler Gates killed an Indian warrior and captured his arms.
