The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant George Grant, United States Army, for bravery, energy, and perseverance, involving much suffering and privation through attacks by hostile Indians, deep snows, etc., while voluntarily carrying dispatches from Fort Kearney to Fort C.F. Smith, Dakota Territory, in February 1867, while serving with Company E, 18th U.S. Infantry.
