The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant George P. Dow, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on October, 1864, while serving with Company C, 7th New Hampshire Infantry, in action at Richmond, Virginia, for gallantry while in command of his company during a reconnaissance toward Richmond.
