The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Corporal Gotlieb Luty, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 3 May 1863, while serving with Company A, 74th New York Infantry, in action at Chancellorsville, Virginia. Corporal Luty bravely advanced to the enemy’s line under heavy fire and brought back valuable information.
