The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Captain & Assistant Adjutant General Hazard Stevens, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 19 April 1863, while serving with U.S. Volunteers, in action at Fort Huger, Virginia. Captain Stevens gallantly led a party that assaulted and captured the fort.
