The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Colonel (Cavalry) Henry Capehart, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 22 May 1864, while serving with 1st West Virginia Cavalry, in action at Greenbriar River, West Virginia. Colonel Capehart saved, under fire, the life of a drowning soldier.
