    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private Peter T. Anderson, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 19 March 1865, while serving with Company B, 31st Wisconsin Infantry, in action at Bentonville, North Carolina. Entirely unassisted, Private Anderson brought from the field an abandoned piece of artillery and saved the gun from falling into the hands of the enemy.
