The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private William Henry Osborne, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 1 July 1862, while serving with Company C, 29th Massachusetts Infantry, in action at Malvern Hill, Virginia. Although wounded and carried to the rear, Private Osborne secured a rifle and voluntarily returned to the front, where, failing to find his own regiment, he joined another and fought with it until again severely wounded and taken prisoner.
