    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to First Sergeant Daniel Webster Burke, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 20 September 1862, while serving with Company B, 2d U.S. Infantry, in action at Shepherdstown Ford, Virginia. First Sergeant Burke voluntarily attempted to spike a gun in the face of the enemy.
