The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Corporal Oliver Hughes, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 20 February 1865, while serving with Company C, 12th Kentucky Infantry, in action at Town Creek, North Carolina, for capture of flag of 11th South Carolina (Confederate States of America).
