Carl Ludwig

The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private Carl Ludwig, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 18 June 1864, while serving with 34th New York Battery, in action at Petersburg, Virginia. As gunner of his piece, Private Ludwig inflicted singly a great loss upon the enemy and distinguished himself in the removal of the piece while under a heavy fire.
