Edward Barnhart

The Navy Cross is awarded to Chief Gunner’s Mate Edward Barnhart, U.S. Navy, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in command of the Armed Guard of the steamship Harwood, which was attacked by an enemy submarine; especially for very prompt action in opening fire on the periscope. The Harwood Escaped uninjured.
