Raymond R. Brown

The Navy Cross is awarded to Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class Raymond R. Brown, U.S. Navy, for exceptionally meritorious and heroic conduct displayed while attached to the Eighty-fourth Company, Sixth Marines at Blanc Mont, Champagne region, France, October 3 – 7, 1918. Pharmacist’s Mate Brown continually exposed himself to the fire of the enemy machine guns, snipers, and Austrian 88’s in order to render first aid and evacuated the wounded in a system of shallow trenches east of St. Etienne. He continued in this performance of his duty until killed in action.
