Frank R. Fisher

The Navy Cross is awarded to Chief Machinist’s Mate Frank R. Fisher, U.S. Navy, for extraordinary heroism while serving on the U.S.S. Cassin. After the torpedoing of that vessel on the explosion on board, Chief Machinist’s Mate Fisher went into a compartment from which smoke was pouring, and into which a magazine opened, together with two officers to inspect conditions in the magazine, and locate the source of the fire. Afterwards, with others, he was untiring in shoring up bulkheads, etc. setting a splendid example to others.
