Charles A. Johnson

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Charles A. Johnson (ASN: AO-724945), United States Air Force, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as Pilot of a Rescue Helicopter of the 3d Air Rescue Squadron, FIFTH Air Force, in Korea, in 1952. Captain Johnson flew his unarmed rescue helicopter far beyond enemy lines to recover a downed Marine Corps pilot. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Johnson, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
