Antoine Compana
The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Antoine Compana, Gunner, French Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Mortzwiller, Alsace, September 1, 1918. During a terrific bombardment of the railway station, Gunner Compana, as a member of a train crew, assisted in the removal of 9 cars of ammunition to a place of safety. The mission was successfully accomplished, despite the fact that the fierce shelling had damaged the track, and trees blown across the track made it nearly impassable.
