  • The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Emile Sartorious, Adjutant, French Army, for extraordinary heroism in action at Vadenay, north of Chalons-sur-Marne, France, July 15, 1918, During the shelling of Vadenay on the morning of July 15, 1918, Adjutant Interpreter Sartorious voluntarily left a place of safety to conduct American troops to shelter under a heavy fire of major-caliber shells and was severely wounded.
