The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Louis Bowem Lawton, United States Army, for gallantry in action on 13 July 1900, while serving with the 9th Infantry at Tientsin, China. First Lieutenant Lawton carried a message and guided reinforcements across a wide and fireswept space, during which he was thrice wounded.
