August A. Schovan (Aka: J. Harold Arnold)

The Navy Cross is presented to August A. Schovan aka: J. Harold Arnold, Drummer, U.S. Marine Corps, for exceptionally meritorious service in the Dominican Republic on December 1, 1916. J. Harold Arnold, while serving under the name of Arnold A. Schovan, drummer of the Thirty-First Company, Fourth Regiment, U.S. Marine Corps, in action involving actual conflict with the enemy, distinguished himself conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty.
