The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to George D. Rice, Chaplain, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action at Bayan, Lake Lanao, Mindanao, Philippine Islands, May 2, 1902. With utter disregard for his personal safety Chaplain Rice administered to the wounded under heavy fire from the enemy.
