Assistant Surgeon Davidson voluntarily attempted to run the enemy’s batteries.

The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to First Lieutenant Andrew Davidson, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action at Petersburg at the Mine, Virginia, on 30 July 1864. First Lieutenant Davidson was one of the first to enter the enemy’s works, where, after his colonel, major, and one-third of the company’s officers had fallen, he gallantly assisted in rallying and saving the remnant of the command.
