The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Dana Bristol Thrasher, Private, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the Headquarters Company, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action near Vierzy, France, July 19, 1918. Private Thrasher carried numerous messages to front line platoons; crossing and re-crossing areas swept by severe machine-gun and artillery fire. When wounded, he refused medical attention, directing those who came to his assistance to leave him and go forward.
