The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Ernest K. Aselton, Private, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 76th Company, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action near St. Etienne, France, October 8, 1918. Private Aselton volunteered and, under extremely heavy shell and machine-gun fire, established liaison for his company, bringing reinforcements to the line at a critical time, and thereby’ assisting materially in repelling a hostile counterattack. He was killed later during this attack.
