    The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to John Baume, Pharmacist’s Mate First Class, U.S. Navy, for extraordinary heroism in action near St. Etienne, France, October 3 – 5, 1918. Pharmacist’s Mate Baume gave aid to the wounded under shell and machine-gun fire, and went forward several times during the advance to locate advanced dressing stations.
