The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to John Beck Flocken, Private, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 79th Company, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action in the capture of Bouresches, France, June 6, 1918. Private Flocken was twice hit in the leg, but he dragged his automatic rifle two hundred yards forward and opened fire on an enemy machine gun, and silenced it.
