    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Mieczyslaw Brocki (ASN: 41911), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Soissons, France, 21 July 1918. Regardless of his personal safety, Corporal Brocki successfully led his platoon in action against the enemy, although greatly outnumbered. When in danger of being surrounded, he killed with clubbed rifle, 6 of the enemy and wounded 3 and fought his way out to a wounded comrade and rescued him.
