Paul J. Montague

The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star Medal to Paul J. Montague (0-81197), Major, U.S. Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action during the period from June 1970 through March 1973, while being confined as a Prisoner of War. By his courage, aggressive fighting spirit and steadfast devotion to duty in the face of extreme personal danger, Major Montague upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.

Montague (0-81197), Captain, U.S. Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 165 (HMM-165), 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, in connection with combat operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam on March 29, 1968. By his courage, aggressive fighting spirit and steadfast devotion to duty in the face of extreme personal danger, Captain Montague upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.
