By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Ray R. Kennedy (ASN: 2158908), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private Kennedy distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action on 30 August 1918, near Voormezeele, Belgium, in securing valuable information under heavy enemy fire.

The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Ray R. Kennedy, Private, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Ribeauville, France, October 18 – 19, 1918. On the night of October 18 – 19, when all. communication had been temporarily lost with the unit on the left of his regiment, Private Kennedy volunteered to attempt the establishment of liaison, fully aware of the danger necessarily incurred. While attempting to cross a heavily shelled area to reach the flank regiment, he received a wound which resulted in the loss of his leg.
