The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Corporal George H. Littlefield, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 25 March 1865, while serving with Company G, 1st Maine Veteran Infantry, in action at Fort Fisher, North Carolina. The color sergeant having been wounded, Corporal Littlefield picked up the flag and bore it to the front, to the great encouragement of the charging column.
